I met Seki 28 December 2018.

 My dearest friend Misan reached out to me saying she was in Benin for the 50th birthday party of Abieyuwa’s Dad ( my friend from high school- who happens to be Seki’s younger sister) . I am not really the kind of person that likes going out and all, so I gave Mimi every excuse I could think of, so I wouldn’t have to go but she wasn’t budging because she knows me too well. 

On the day of the party, my mom and sister finally forced me to go out, because they claimed I am always shying away from socialising. 

I arrived the venue for the event and it was empty! Apparently everyone knew about African time except me  .

I was feeling weirded out about waiting there for more than an hour and I really wanted to go but Misan just kept begging me, because she really wanted us to see. When they finally arrived,  Misan located me and brought me to her table, which happened to be where the Obaseki siblings were seated( Seki included) . I had previously met all of the Obaseki siblings in high school, except Seki, because he left Nigeria for University while I was still in High school. Seki was seated directly opposite me and he somehow caught my attention. 

This may sound cliche, but when I first saw him.. there was something about him that felt safe and peaceful and I knew at that very moment that I hadn’t met any guy like Seki and this is someone I would share a strong connection with . 

Few moments later, he left his seat and walked over to my seat to introduce himself. Misan introduced me and he was like “ Abies’s friend from high school.. wow small kids of yesterday.. y’all are all grown up now”….…

Sincerely the statement put me off , and I just turned my gaze from him and focused my attention on my phone till he left. Which one is small kids of yesterday? Do I look like a kid to you? .. Sir no dey use younger sister eye look me oo.. a whole grown lady! 

After a while, it was time to dance and spray the celebrants.. so Misan dragged me to the dance floor..where I met seki dancing again.. Misan kept pushing me toward’s seki lol… so myself and seki were about to strike a conversation on the dance floor, when he got called off by a relative. He begged me to give him a minute but unfortunately the heel of my shoe broke after he left (maybe due to all the pushing Misan kept doing on the dance floor ) .. so I left the party. 

2 days later, on the 30. December 2018, I got a WhatsApp message from Seki Apparently he had collected my number from Misan. I replied his message and we just clicked. We chatted all day like we had known each other for years. The next day was New Year’s Eve and sadly his phone got bad… Oga couldn’t stay away.. He had to borrow Abies’s phone to talk to me all day till we crossed over to the new year on the phone….so yeah we have just been talking every day since then and I know we are going to keep talking for the rest of our long lives .

How we met (Groom’s POV)

The manner of our meeting can only be likened to that of True Fate. Coming back into Nigeria, I had just sworn off love and any form of relationships, little did I know that my life was about to change forever. 

It was on the celebration of my father’s golden jubilee that I met the most radiant woman ever.

During the ceremony of my Father’s 50th, (on the 29th of December 2018), his children were called to walk down the aisle, and as we danced in I noticed someone quite peculiar, because this beautiful youngin’ was sat at a table meant for family and their plus one’s. However, I was bothered by it, I continued to the main stage to celebrate my father with my siblings. Afterwards, we all returned back to our designated seats, apparently, my younger sister, her friend Misan, and ofure were sat at the same table and then an acquaintance of mine called Misan (my sister’s friend) beckoned on me to introduce us to each other. As soon as I approached their table I immediately got blinded by the most beautiful smile I’d ever seen, her face, her smile, her skin, her energy, and her spirit, I was staring at the anatomy of perfection. I was a bit nervous and in my usual convivial banter, I said “oh wow, you guys are so grown now o, kids of yesterday”. 

I guess that put her off cause she kind of looked away after that, but I continued speaking to her and stole that opportunity to shake her hand, to tap small current if at all . In that same evening, we ended up on the dance floor although we did not dance together as I would’ve liked.

Afterwards, I got her number from her friend Misan and shot my shot and it was green all the way because we spoke for nearly 72 hours non-stop till the new year and I asked her to be my girlfriend on the 21st of January 2019, and the rest was blissful history. Thank God for that smile, and I get to see it everyday for the rest of my life.
